Attendance of Relatives on the Intesive Care Unit – Development, Implementation and Evaluation of a Supporting Concept

Abstract:

Das Projekt „Angehörigenbetreuung auf der Intensivstation“ ist ein praxisorientiertes Forschungsprojekt, das sich auf die Problematik der pflegerischen Praxis bezüglich der Betreuung von Angehörigen auf Intensivstationen der Erwachsenenintensivpflege bezieht. Das Projekt wird in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Robert-Bosch-Krankenhaus in Stuttgart durchgeführt und besteht aus mehreren empirischen Erhebungen sowohl quantitativen als auch qualitativen Designs. Zielsetzung des Projektes ist die Generierung einer Datengrundlage zur Entwicklung eines bedürfnisorientierten Betreuungskonzeptes für Angehörige von Intensivpatienten. Darüber hinaus wird auf Grundlage der Daten in Zusammenarbeit mit Intensivpflegekräften ein Betreuungskonzept für Angehörige entwickelt, auf Intensivstation implementiert sowie evaluiert. Gefühle und Bedürfnisse sowohl von Patienten, Angehörigen als auch des Intensivpersonals gilt es in diesem zu berücksichtigen. Nachhaltig soll durch das Projekt die vorhandene Qualität der pflegerischen Versorgung optimiert, die Kundenzufriedenheit und das Image der Einrichtung im Sinne des Qualitätsmanagements verbessert sowie aus ökonomischer Sicht die Ressource Angehörige genutzt werden. Grundlage des Projektes stellen sowohl eine Erhebung bei Intensivpflegekräften der Bundesländer Baden Württemberg, Hessen und Rheinland Pfalz als auch eine Totalerhebung der Intensivstationen des Robert-Bosch-Krankenhauses und des Standortes Schillerhöhe mittels standardisiertem Fragenbogen dar, anhand deren die Situation der Angehörigenbetreuung auf Intensivstationen bereits exploriert wurden. In weiteren Erhebungen bei Patienten und deren Angehörigen soll die Effektivität des entwickelten Betreuungskonzeptes evaluiert werden.

The research project „Attendance of relatives at the intensive care unit“, is a practice-oriented project which refers to the custodial experience concerning attendance of relatives at the ICUs for adults. The project is performed in co-operation with Robert-Bosch-Hospital located in Stuttgart and consists of several empirical surveys, both quantitative as well as of qualitative design. The purpose of this project is to establish a database for the development of a concept of attendance for relatives of ICU patients according to the needs. Moreover a concept of attendance for relatives will be developed in cooperation with the nursing staff, implemented in the ICUs and evaluated by using this database. Emotions and needs of patients, relatives as well as the nursing staff of the intensive care units have to be considered. With this project the already existing quality of the medical care should be optimized and the satisfaction of customers as well as the image of the institution shall be upgraded effectively in sense of the quality management. Also as of an economical point of view the resource „family member” should be used. The basis of the project is a survey of the nursing staff of intensive care units in the Federal States of Baden-Württemberg, Hessen, and Rheinland Pfalz as well as a total survey of the intensive care units of Robert-Bosch-Hospital and location of Schillerhöhe done with standardized questionnaires, of which the situation of the attendance of relatives at the intensive care unit has already been explored. In additional questionnaires asking patients and their relatives the effectiveness of the developed attendance concept is to be evaluated.
